Hello everyone! Among the many ways to make steamed dumplings, I want to share a delicious and easy chicken dumpling recipe that you can make at home by yourself. These are special steamed dumplings with a soft, tender filling and a lovely fragrance of banana leaf, so if you love dumplings, be sure to try making this at home.
Ingredients
- Chicken 1 viss
- Dumpling flour sheets (about 10 sheets)
- Mushrooms 6 pieces
- Garlic 3 cloves
- Shallots 3 bulbs
- Ginger 1 knob
- Egg 1
- Black pepper 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce 2 tablespoons
- Corn starch 2 tablespoons
- Banana leaves 5 sheets
- Spring onions 3 stalks
- Light soy sauce 3 tablespoons
- Dark soy sauce 1 tablespoon
- Brown sugar 1 tablespoon
- Lime 1
- Chili powder 2 tablespoons
- Sesame oil 1 tablespoon
- Water
Step-by-step instructions
(1) First, finely chop the chicken. Then in a grinder, combine the chicken, mushrooms, shallots, garlic, ginger, black pepper, egg, light soy sauce, fish sauce, a little salt, corn starch, spring onions, and sesame oil, and grind until smooth and well blended. Once done, transfer the ground mixture into a large bowl.
(2) Next, prepare the dumpling wrapper sheets for filling. Fill a small bowl with about a cup of water. Then take a dumpling flour sheet and spread it flat on your palm. Place a small amount of the ground filling mixture right in the center of the dumpling sheet. Then dampen the edges of the dumpling wrapper slightly with water and press it closed with your hands.
(3) Repeat the same process to fill the remaining dumpling wrapper sheets. Then, for steaming the dumplings, pour about 3 cups of water into a pot and bring it to a boil. Line the bottom of the bamboo steaming basket with banana leaves. Lining it with banana leaves will make the dumplings softer and give them a lovely fragrant aroma throughout.
(4) Once the water is boiling, place the basket containing the dumplings on top of the pot and steam for about 7 minutes. While the dumplings are steaming, prepare the dipping sauce to go with them. For the sauce, combine light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, fish sauce, lime, and chili powder in a bowl with a little water and mix well. You can adjust the amount of lime and chili to your own taste for more sourness and spiciness.
(5) Once all the dumplings are fully cooked, transfer them to a plate. Serve them together with the prepared dipping sauce, and you'll have truly delicious steamed dumplings to enjoy.
