We tend to store foods in the refrigerator to make them last longer. However, not every food needs to be kept in the refrigerator.
The cold temperature of the refrigerator can cause the taste and nutritional value of certain foods to deteriorate. That's why we're presenting foods that don't like the cold, or in other words, foods that shouldn't be stored in the refrigerator.
Vegetables
When carrots and sweet potatoes are stored in the refrigerator, these vegetables tend to wilt and rot.
When tomatoes are put in the refrigerator, their juiciness decreases and they tend to lose their flavor as well.
Onions and garlic also tend to rot when they become too moist.
If you put potatoes in the refrigerator, the starch in the potatoes turns into sugar, and their fiber content also tends to break down.
Fruits
If you've bought green bananas, don't put them in the refrigerator. Ripe bananas also tend to turn black and spotted when placed in the refrigerator.
For fruits such as mangosteens, kiwis, oranges, mangoes, guavas, star gooseberries, and other fruits rich in acidity, instead of putting them in the refrigerator, store them in a paper bag.
Sweet foods
Don't store chocolate, honey, and peanut butter in the refrigerator either. Chocolate should be kept in a cool, dark place, and honey should be put in a glass bottle, tightly sealed, and kept in a dark place. As for peanut butter, storing it in the pantry is the most suitable option.
Bread and cakes
If you store bread and cakes in the refrigerator, their flavor tends to deteriorate and mold grows faster. So keep them in a bread bag at room temperature instead.
Vinegar, seasoning powder, and sauce bottles
Vinegar bottles, sauce bottles, and ketchup bottles will last longer and stay fresher if kept outside rather than stored in the refrigerator.
