A 5.6-pound avocado grown by a family in Hawaii, United States, has set a world record.

The giant avocado received official recognition as the world's largest avocado, earning a Guinness World Record certificate.

The farming family of Mark, Juliana, and Loihi Pokini from Maui Island, Hawaii, harvested the record-breaking avocado last December and believed it might set a world record.

They applied to the Guinness World Records organization, and this week they received the documentation confirming the world record.

Juliane Pokini said, "We are extremely excited. We also had to wait a long time to get listed on this record."

The previous record-holding avocado weighed 5.5 pounds.

Mark's family had also previously obtained an avocado weighing 5.7 pounds, but they did not apply for the Guinness World Record at that time.
