A grapefruit grown by a married couple in Louisiana, USA, has set the world's largest grapefruit Guinness World Record.

Weighing 7 pounds and 14.64 ounces, agricultural officials in the United States have confirmed that this grapefruit is the heaviest and largest fruit of its kind in the world.

Mary Beth and Doug Meyer, officials from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, presented the certificate recognizing it as the world's largest grapefruit.

The grapefruit measures 28.75 inches in circumference.

The previously recognized largest grapefruit weighed 7 pounds and 1 ounce, with a circumference of 27.5 inches.

Grower Doug Meyer said, "My granddaughter made a little garden plot under the tree. One day she noticed the grapefruit had gotten really big. From there, we kept an eye on it as it grew and took care of it, and it ended up getting this big."

He added, "This experience will become a really beautiful memory for the children."
