Don't throw away the leftover bits after you've cut and trimmed your vegetables right away. Some vegetables can actually be regrown and eaten again, so try growing these little plants to save money and cure your boredom at the same time.
It also means less rubbish piling up in your kitchen, and since pesticides are being overused these days, you won't need to worry about health risks either.
Spring Onion
This is one of the easiest vegetables to grow and sprouts the fastest, so if you keep some growing at home, you won't even think about buying more. Keep the root end of the spring onion, including the roots, and place it in a jar or glass filled with about half an inch of water.
Leave it under gentle sunlight, and if you change the water every three to four days, you'll see little sprouts appear sooner or later.
Lemongrass
Just like spring onions, if you place the root end in a glass with a little water, you'll see it sprout within a few days.
Bell Pepper
Bury the seeds from inside a bell pepper into a flower pot with soil and place it directly under sunlight.
Avocado
Wash the avocado seed, insert toothpicks evenly around its sides, and balance it over a glass filled with water. Keep it under sunlight and change the water every two days. After a few weeks, the seed will crack open and a stem will begin to grow.
Ginger
Soak the ginger in a glass of water overnight. Fill a wide pot with soil and plant the ginger about two inches deep. Water it regularly and keep it in a place without direct sunlight. After a few weeks, it will sprout, and in about three to four months, it will be ready to harvest and eat.
