Storing fruits and vegetables properly and systematically will help you avoid wasting extra money. However, storing all foods together in one place is not a good method. There are foods that like sunlight, and there are also foods that last longer when kept in the dark.
Depending on whether the food you bought prefers cold temperatures or room temperature, let's continue reading the tips below so you can store them properly.
How to store onions
Put the onions into a nylon bag, roll up the top of the bag, and tie it off. Leave a little space between each bag of garlic so they don't touch each other.
If you want bananas to last longer
Wrap the top of the banana bunch's stem with a piece of tape. This way, no brown spots will appear for 4 to 5 days, and they will stay fresh.
Garlic
Garlic likes dry, dark places. The minimum shelf life of garlic is 3 to 10 days, but if kept in a dark, dry place, it can last up to 2 months.
How to store coriander, spring onion leaves, and mint leaves
Without washing these vegetables, stick the stems into a cup filled with water. Keep this cup of water at room temperature. They will stay fresh for 4 to 5 days.
If you want to ripen a green avocado quickly
Wrap the avocado in newspaper and put it inside a small bag. This way, it will ripen quickly within 3 to 5 days. If you put a banana in the bag together with it, it will ripen within 2 to 3 days. Or, if you want it to ripen only after 7 days, don't put it in a bag — just wrap the avocado in newspaper alone.
If you want to keep mushrooms fresh
Without washing the mushrooms, put them into a paper bag. Then add a small amount of coriander leaves into the same bag. The mushrooms will stay naturally fresh for 3 to 5 days.
If you want to remove blemishes on strawberries
When people notice black spots on strawberries, they tend to cut off the top of the stem. From now on, you don't need to do that anymore. In a bowl, mix 2 parts water with 1 part vinegar thoroughly. Then put the strawberries into the bowl. Be careful not to include any moldy strawberries among the ones you put in. Otherwise, all the remaining strawberries will spoil.
After soaking them in the vinegar solution for a few hours, remove any leaf husks, put them into a sealed bag, and then store them in the refrigerator. They will stay fresh for 5 to 6 days. If you want to keep them for 2 to 4 months, freeze them in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator.
