Traditional dishes each have their own unique flavors and leave a distinct impression on the taste buds of those who eat them. This time, for those who love traditional recipes, we're sharing a recipe for Filipino-style chicken in coconut milk.
Ingredients
- 1.5 viss (about 2.4 lbs) chicken, cut into large pieces
- 16 tablespoons coconut milk
- 8 tablespoons vinegar
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 6 cloves garlic
- 5 bay leaves
- 3 teaspoons whole black peppercorns
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Heat a pot and add the oil.
2. Smash the garlic cloves with the flat of a knife, then add them to the hot oil and fry until fragrant.
3. Next, add the chicken pieces and fry each side for about 1 to 1.5 minutes.
4. Add the soy sauce and vinegar, and mix well. Then cover the pot and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, flip the chicken pieces to the other side and let simmer for another 5 minutes.
5. Add the peppercorns and bay leaves. Pour in the coconut milk and stir well. Then let it simmer until it comes to a boil again.
Cover and simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes, after which the chicken will become tender and soft.
And there you have it — a fragrant and delicious bowl of Filipino-style chicken in coconut milk.
Enjoy it hot with steamed rice.
