Hello everyone! This time I'd like to share a recipe for a traditional Chinese snack called shrimp toast balls.

Ingredients

  • About 1 pound of peeled shrimp
  • 1 egg (use only the egg white and beat it)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or fish sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice flour

  • Half a teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • A pinch of white pepper powder
  • 8 slices of bread

Step-by-step instructions

1. In a food processor, add the shrimp, egg white, salt (or fish sauce), sugar, rice flour, sesame oil, oil, and white pepper powder, then blend together. Blend until the shrimp becomes a paste.

2. Cut the 8 slices of bread into small strips using a knife. Roll the shrimp paste into small balls of an appropriate size, then coat them by pressing on the bread strips.

3. As shown in the picture, the bread strips will be sticking to the shrimp balls.

4. Trim off any bread strips that are sticking out too much or too long with a knife.

5. Once all the shrimp balls are formed, deep fry them in hot oil for about 5 minutes. To remove excess oil, place the fried shrimp balls on paper towels for a few minutes.

Then transfer them to a plate and enjoy dipping them in your favorite sauce!
