Hello everyone! While watching Korean dramas, have you ever felt the urge to make tteokbokki yourself? If so, I'd like to share an easy method you can make at home on your own.

Ingredients

  • About 1 pound of tteokbokki rice cakes
  • 4 cups of water (946 ml)
  • 7 dried anchovies
  • 1 sheet of dried kelp (seaweed)
  • 5 tablespoons of gochujang (red pepper paste)
  • 2 boiled eggs (optional, can be omitted)
  • 3 stalks of scallions (cut lengthwise into long strips)
  • 1 tablespoon of red pepper powder (gochugaru)
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

Step-by-step instructions

Put water into a pot, add the dried anchovies and kelp, and boil uncovered for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the gochujang, gochugaru, and sugar together with a little water until well blended.

As the second step, remove the dried anchovies and kelp from the broth, then add the tteokbokki rice cakes and boil them. After that, add the sauce mixture prepared earlier, the scallions, and the boiled eggs, then add a little more water and continue boiling.

Let it simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes until the rice cakes become soft. Don't forget to stir frequently. If the rice cakes are still not soft enough, add a little more water.

Now you can enjoy this deliciously spicy Korean tteokbokki.
