In this era of rapid progress, as foreign cultures make their way into the country, people have also come to enjoy and crave international foods with great fondness. Up until about a decade ago, in Myanmar, boiled eggs were simply boiled plainly with a little water. But nowadays, people have come to enjoy various styles such as soy sauce eggs and tea leaf eggs.
For those who love soy sauce eggs and tea leaf eggs and enjoy eating international foods, this time we'd like to share a recipe for Korean-style beef strips with soy-marinated boiled eggs.
Ingredients
- Beef 1 pound (450 grams)
- Soy sauce 12 tablespoons
- Water 1 liter
- Honey 1 teaspoon
- Garlic, large cloves, 2
- Eggs 3
- Long chili peppers (or) Korean chili peppers (or) jalapeños, about 2 small bowls' worth
- Dried kelp (seaweed), a small amount
Step-by-step preparation method
1. Cut the 1 pound of beef into fairly thick pieces, about 2 inches wide and 3 inches long. Soak the resulting beef strips in cold water.
2. Pour about 1 liter of water into a pot and bring it to a boil.
3. Once the water is boiling, add the beef pieces into the hot water and boil for about 1 hour.
4. Once the beef becomes tender, remove the beef pieces and rinse them with cold water. Strain the beef broth through a strainer.
6. Next, place the beef broth and the beef pieces into a clean pot. Add the soy sauce, garlic, dried kelp, chili peppers, and honey. Then place the 3 eggs on top so they're submerged about halfway into the surface of the liquid, and boil for about 7 minutes.
7. Once the set time is up, turn the eggs over and boil for another 10 minutes. This ensures the yolk stays right in the center.
Once the 10 minutes are up, remove the eggs and soak them in ice water. Then tap them with a spoon to create cracks in the shell.
8. Place the cracked eggs into the pot so they're fully submerged, and boil for another 15 minutes.
9. Once the set time is up, turn off the heat. Then peel the shells off the eggs.
Now you have your beef strips with soy-marinated boiled eggs ready.
10. Right before serving, place the beef into a bowl. Add a small amount of chili peppers, a small amount of dried kelp, and about 2 halved eggs, then pour in a little of the broth and enjoy deliciously.
