Greetings to everyone! When it comes to Thingyan, we usually offer free alms of Thingyan treats like mont lone yay paw, Thingyan rice, shwe yin aye, and mont let saung as acts of charity.

I myself also want to offer this as an act of charity. Or if you want to make it to enjoy with your family, you can do that too!

Ingredients

  • Mont let saung flakes - 1 pint
  • Coconut - 1
  • Perfume essence (nan tha oil) - a small amount
  • Palm jaggery - 50 kyat-weight (viss unit)
  • Salt - a small amount
  • Water - 10 condensed milk tins

For the coconut milk

  • Coconut - 6 or 7
  • Sugar - about 50 kyat-weight
  • Salt - a small amount
  • Ice

Method

First, boil the palm jaggery with 10 condensed milk tins of water and a little salt. Let it cool down.

You'll need to grate the coconut for the oil/cream.

Once the palm jaggery syrup has cooled, add a little mont let saung flakes and add ice. Sprinkle in the grated coconut flakes and add a drop or two of perfume essence (nan tha oil) before serving.

Coconut Milk

Some people like to add a bit of coconut milk to their mont let saung and drink it that way.

Grate the coconut and squeeze out the liquid. Add sugar, water, and salt, then boil it.

Add the mont let saung flakes, the sugar syrup, and the coconut milk together, and you can enjoy it with ice cubes.
