Greetings to everyone! Since it's Thingyan, I think many of you will remember mont lone yay paw. I've seen people offering it to charity groups too, so those who've already eaten it have probably moved on by now.

Making mont lone yay paw isn't that hard.

Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice flour – 1 cup
  • Coarse rice flour – a little
  • Young coconut water – 1 cup
  • Palm sugar (jaggery) blocks (cut each into about 6 pieces)
  • Shredded coconut

Method

First, fill a deep pot with water and bring it to a boil.

In a large bowl, mix the glutinous rice flour, coarse rice flour, and young coconut water together, then knead it.

You need to knead it until it becomes sticky, okay?

Form the dough into small balls of a suitable size as desired. Flatten the dough ball in your palm and put a piece of palm sugar inside. Rolling these together with friends and family members makes for a lot of fun conversation, you know.

Arrange the balls separately so they don't stick to each other.

Drop them into the boiling water. Don't overcrowd the pot, okay? Overcrowding can cause them to not cook properly, and it also becomes very difficult to scoop them out.

After that, prepare another large bowl with ice water. When the mont lone yay paw float to the surface, put them into the ice water to cool, then drain them.

You can sprinkle shredded coconut on top before serving, okay?
