Shwe Sa Bwe Restaurant, a renowned restaurant recognized as one of Myanmar's best restaurants by international and local food critics, underwent a 2-month renovation and reopened its doors on August 28, 2019. Famous Myanmar artists attended the reopening ceremony of the restaurant, which also serves as a training school for chefs and restaurant managers for underprivileged youths in Myanmar.
Chef Davy, co-owner, head chef, and lead training instructor at Shwe Sa Bwe Restaurant, said, "We believe there are no limits to innovation and improvement. In order to remain Yangon's best restaurant and continue to earn our customers' support, we will keep working hard to make our restaurant even better."
After the renovation, Shwe Sa Bwe Restaurant now has a modern and elegant new Retro Style look, offering a warm and comfortable dining atmosphere. Davy, who has worked in Myanmar's restaurant industry for 10 years, along with his trainees, has modernized the food and cocktails, serving Asian dishes alongside European fare. "We've redesigned Shwe Sa Bwe with a new layout and modernized our menu to make it even better. We hope our customers will continue to support us and our trainees," said Davy.
At the opening ceremony, famous Myanmar singer Ah Moon said, "Today I'm supporting a meaningful charitable venture by Shwe Sa Bwe, a restaurant that also trains future chefs and restaurant managers for underprivileged youth in Myanmar, while also enjoying beautifully prepared, high-quality dishes. I want to encourage everyone to help support this cause as well. It may not seem like much, but it means a great deal to the trainees."
The artists and media who toured the training school restaurant personally witnessed the service and hard work of the 23 new students currently learning service and kitchen management for this year. Thanks to the delicious dishes and excellent service, guests who attended the opening ceremony praised the fact that they were being served by students who had only been in training for about a month. Despite being busy, the trainees worked with joyful smiles throughout.
Since its founding in 2011, Shwe Sa Bwe Restaurant has trained around 200 students in service and kitchen management. In this one-year training program, students learn cooking techniques and restaurant theory free of charge, including accommodation and tuition, followed by hands-on workplace training and basic English lessons.
As a self-sustaining business, Shwe Sa Bwe uses income from the restaurant to support its training program. Its customers not only want to enjoy an exceptional dining experience but are also passionate about supporting Myanmar's youth and contributing to the future of Myanmar's hotel and tourism sector. Many graduates of Shwe Sa Bwe's training program are now working at top restaurants, hotels, and cruise lines across Myanmar.
Although it serves high-quality dishes and beverages, because its ingredients are purchased directly from local producers, Shwe Sa Bwe's prices are more reasonable than most fine-dining restaurants in Yangon, with a three-course dinner or tasting menu costing between 50,000 and 65,000 Myanmar Kyats (33 to 43 USD), and a per-person bistro lunch costing between 15,000 and 20,000 Myanmar Kyats (10 to 13 USD).
